I’ve spent most of this year learning how to write adult romance after a decade in children’s literature, which has really brought home why I do this work: I love learning how to do new things, and to do them well. I love learning how to make something at a high level of craft, whether that’s banana bread or gardens or stories. There is no way to rush this process, and there is no need. Once a skill is mastered, a new one arrives to humble me. I think that’s why this quote resonates so deeply with me. It is a reminder that craft takes time, but that is the whole point, to fill our time with the joy of learning. What new craft are you learning right now?
