Art is a process
Your weekly fodder
Art is a process not a product
As I reflected on my notebook work in 2025, I noticed that I haven’t been drawing as much as I used to. I haven’t been making the time for it, and I miss it. My schedule was a lot busier in 2025 so I started treating my notebook as a task to complete rather than a playground to explore, but that doesn’t bring me joy. What brings me joy is coming to the page with a vague idea and allowing it to play out. I don’t know how these pages will look when I start and while it may take some extra time to take the journey of figuring it out, the journey is the whole point. When I let myself lose track of time and truly play as I draw, my soul flourishes. Energy surges, ideas spark, and so much joy arrives. Do you need to get back to enjoying your creative process, too? Have you become focused on outcomes over enjoying the journey and seeing where it leads? If this resonates, let me know in the comments. I always love to hear from you.

Dear friend, you have found something precious: the insight of PROCESS. Art is a process. Yes! We are all in a process of becoming. Life is a process too, products are temporary only. When you approached your notebook not as a task to complete, but as a playground to explore, you could experience and feel the difference. With this insight as the North Star it's possible to live without being attached to outcomes but instead on making the most of the journey. Happy Creative New Year, Mel! With love, Maria
